Bing
Bing is the workhorse of the print shop. He is a turn-of-the-century Chandler & Price 10 x 15 Oldstyle built to put out newspapers at record speed back in the day. In his later years, he did small print runs for his next owner who lost his job as a pressman after computers started to move in and the printing industry took a dive. He couldn't give it up entirely so he used the press to do small runs on the side for friends and acquaintances. Printing is infectious that way.
Since he was the first press to be acquired by the shop, he was also awarded a spot in the name. Despite his prestigious rank in the company, he has yet to be put into action. Bing had to be dismantled and hauled up to ground level after his last place of employment. At 1500 lbs, that's no small feat (thank you Brad and Tim). While he was in pieces, we decided it was the perfect time to replace worn out or broken parts and clean and repaint everything else. The restoration is almost complete and we'll be sure to document the rest of the progress on the blog.
